Olympique de Marseille have ended their collaboration with head coach Habib Beye, four months after he took charge. The club said in a statement that it had parted company, thanking him and wishing him well.

Beye, a former Marseille player and captain, arrived in mid-February to replace Roberto De Zerbi, who had chosen to leave. He did not meet the targets of a Coupe de France triumph and Champions League qualification.

Marseille were knocked out by Toulouse in the Coupe de France quarter-finals and finished fifth in Ligue 1. Beye's record was six wins, two draws and five defeats.

For weeks the coaching situation had been on hold while the club focused on key hearings with the DNCG and UEFA's financial control body. On Friday the DNCG imposed controls on the wage bill and transfer spending, measures that had also applied in summer 2021 and winter 2023.

A few days earlier UEFA had fined Marseille 10 million euros and restricted their ability to register new players for the next Europa League. Beye's departure should allow Bruno Genesio to take over, the former Lille coach having left at the end of last season.
