PSG’s Achraf Hakimi has been named the 2025 African Player of the Year. The announcement was made on Wednesday during a ceremony in Rabat. It marks the first time the 27-year-old has won the CAF honour.

Hakimi’s season, which included lifting both the Champions League and the French Championship with PSG, saw him finish ahead of Mohamed Salah and Victor Osimhen.

The Morocco skipper had reached the final shortlist in 2023 and 2024, while last year’s title went to Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman.

Earlier this year, in May, Hakimi also secured the Marc-Vivien Foé Award, recognising the best African player competing in Ligue 1.

Morocco picked up several other awards on the night. Ghizlane Chebbak was voted Women’s Footballer of the Year, and Al-Hilal’s Yassine Bounou earned the men’s Goalkeeper of the Year award.

Nigeria’s Chiamaka Nnadozie was named Women’s Goalkeeper of the Year for the third straight time. She recently made a move to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Women’s Super League.

Cape Verde’s Bubista collected the Coach of the Year award after guiding the island nation to their first-ever World Cup qualification, with the tournament set to take place next year in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
