Hamburg have confirmed a grim injury prognosis for Norwegian winger Alexander Røssing-Lelesiit. The 19-year-old had to be subbed off early in Friday night’s Stadtderby match against St. Pauli. Røssing-Lelesiit’s Bundesliga club announced on Sunday that a syndesmotic rupture may sideline the teenage talent for the rest of the season.

Will Hamburg seek a solution in the transfer market?

It appears as if the HSV front office has little choice. Røssing-Lelesiit’s fellow left-winger Jean-Luc Dompé has also been hampered by injury while left-slant attacker Fabio Baldé has struggled to be effective on the Bundesliga level.

In general, the HSV attack has been struggling since the turn of the 2026 calendar year. Merlin Polzin’s team have only scored one goal in three league fixtures and are still awaiting their first victory of the year.

The addition of German-American striker Damion Downs has thus far yielded nothing. Striker Robert Glatzel is also rumored to be pondering a move away from the club. The HSV front office – dealing with its own bit of administrative disarray – must get moving.

Hamburg prepare to target new attacker

It’s an issue that we need to become more dangerous [in attack],HSV head coach Merlin Polzin admitted at his Friday post-match press conference. “We work extremely closely with the scouting department, [sporting director] Claus Costa and [emergency personnel boss] Dr. Eric Huwer. We are in close contact. We will find good solutions for HSV so that we can achieve our goals at the end of the season.”
