Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has issued a demand to Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford, who is currently in fantastic form.
Having sealed a dream move to Barcelona in the summer from United, Rashford has enjoyed an uptick in fortunes.
He has emerged as one of the club’s best players in their push to defend the La Liga title. Rashford has scored 10 goals in 33 appearances, including three in his last four matches. He has also provided 12 assists in that period.
Barcelona retain an option to make Rashford’s stay a permanent one for £26m and there have already been rumours that they are interested in keeping him. Needless to say, Rashford is eager to remain with Catalan giants.
A report covered by The Peoples Person relayed that interim head coach Michael Carrick would love to bring Rashford back if he were to be given the job on a permanent basis. However, according to The Mirror, Rashford has no desire to return to United despite Ruben Amorim’s dismissal.
It’s understood that Rashford has already informed Barcelona of his desire to stay. Furthermore, even if they fail to meet United’s asking price, the Carrington academy graduate would prefer a move to another club over a return to United.
The forward is prepared to slash his wage demands and agree to reduced terms in an effort to remain at Camp Nou.
Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Flick insisted that while he is happy with Rashford’s output, there is still so much more that the player can give the team.
The German coach said [as quoted by Barca Blaugranes], “He has much more potential to show still. We always look at the goals, the last passes, but as a coach he can give us much more.”
“That’s what I want to see.”
Flick continued, “I’m very happy with him, he’s giving us what we ask for, but he has more potential. I want everyone to reach their highest level, to always improve.”
Rashford and his teammates return to action on Tuesday when they face Albacete in the quarter-final of the Copa del Rey.
