Barcelona boss Hansi Flick says the Premier League is the best league in the world, ahead of his side’s clash with Newcastle United in the Champions League.

Flick has never managed in the English top flight, but said: “The Premier League is a great league. For me it is the best league in the world. They have strong teams and a lot of money to make the right decisions.

“There are six Premier League teams in the knockout round of the Champions League. For me we are strong and have huge quality.

“It is not only the Premier League teams. We have to continue our way and our style. This is our philosophy. We want to play like Barca, even in the Champions League.”

Barcelona are currently top of La Liga, four points ahead of Real Madrid, but despite their quality, Flick said they must be wary of the famous St James’ Park atmosphere.

“Tomorrow we will find here in the stadium a fantastic atmosphere,” he said. “The fans will support their team and Newcastle play a very intense game.”
