FC Barcelona returned to winning ways last night with a 3-0 victory over Levante in La Liga. With this win, the Catalans regained top spot in the league table. Hansi Flick was naturally pleased to see his team win again after losing their previous two games. He shared his satisfaction while speaking to the press after the match.
“Scoring early was very important; we saw all the confidence we had from the start. As the minutes went by, we improved in the game and deserved to win.”
The Barcelona coach commented on how midfielders helped in the attack to get a good result:
“When you play against such a deep block, you need midfielders arriving in the box. We also had to find solutions on the left side, and it was positive to score goals like that, with midfielders making those runs.”
Hansi Flick was quite happy with Joao Cancelo’s performance in this game:
“He played a fantastic match; we saw all his quality. He created good chances, especially in the first half, and that’s what I want to see from him.”
“We’ll see. We have a week ahead, and it’s important to assess performances in training, but João has shown his strength and his positive qualities allow us to create chances. For me, he had a great game and it’s fantastic; that’s what I want to see: a fantastic player who can help us a lot.”
The German tactician believed it was quite important to take advantage of Real Madrid’s slip:
“It’s very important. We were talking about it yesterday, and it’s something very positive.”
The Barcelona trainer was not too concerned with the displeasure shown by Lamine Yamal when he was subbed out:
“It’s normal. For me, the most important thing is that we won today. We have players who also deserve to play, and Roony deserved it. He’s training very well, he’s very professional, and I liked his reaction and his attitude when he came on. I understand that for you, everything Lamine does is important, but in the end, it’s normal not to be happy when you’re taken off. I have no problem with his reaction; it’s human.”
Flick also talked about how important it was to have some rest, as there is no midweek match scheduled:
“It’s important to have clear weeks, these two weeks without a game in midweek, to rest a bit but also to focus on the next match, which will be tough, and then, three or four days later, another tough match.”
Marc Bernal was one player Flick picked out for praise:
“He did a great job, gave us structure with the ball, knows where he needs to be at every moment, controlling possession. I like the way he plays.”
Lastly, the German coach also praised Joan Garcia:
“He helps us a lot on the last line, and he’s very good for us.”
It was really good to see Barcelona return to winning ways last night, and they now will have some more time to get back in shape ahead of their next game next week.
