FC Barcelona saw their dreams of a historic treble go up in flames last night as Inter Milan defeated them 4-3 after extra time in the UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg (7-6 on aggregate).
The defeat was a painful one for this largely young Barcelona team who had done brilliantly to reach this stage in Hansi Flick’s first season in charge.
Mundo Deportivo now reports that Barcelona manager Hansi Flick gave a touching speech to the players after the defeat against Inter Milan.
The German tactician wanted his message to resonate deeply in the Barcelona dressing room following the bitter elimination at the Giuseppe Meazza.
Instead of criticising the team, Flick aimed solely to lift the spirits of his players. “I am proud of each and every one of you,” he told them.

“This team stood up until the end,” Flick declared in another of the messages he delivered to his squad.
The coach sought to turn disappointment into a lesson, aware that the young squad must learn to absorb this type of defeat in order to grow.
“We will come back stronger,” he stated.
In a season where Barcelona have displayed the best football in Europe, the defeat at the Giuseppe Meazza is a blow, but also confirmation that the team is once again competing at the highest level in Europe.
Flick’s message to the dressing room was clear: “The season continues, and Barcelona’s ambition remains intact.”
Having failed in their bid to reach a Champions League final for the first time since 2015, the Blaugrana must quickly shift their focus back to La Liga, where they have a crucial El Clasico coming up on Sunday.
