Harrison Reed came on in the 92nd minute and, with seconds remaining, struck a shot that will surely contend for the season’s best, earning Fulham a 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Craven Cottage.
The 30-year-old had only six minutes across two Premier League outings this season and had been an unused substitute 10 times. “I had no other option but to hit one. What a feeling. Not sure on the celebration, I was a bit everywhere,” he told Sky Sports.
Liverpool were set to defend a long throw, leaving Reed unmarked in central space. He took a single touch with his right foot, letting the ball roll across his body rather than pausing to assess options.
He then looked up and drove from around 25 yards. Alisson initially seemed well placed, but the ball climbed and bent away from his reach, dipping into the top corner.
Craven Cottage erupted as Reed wheeled away, doubled back and was swallowed by team-mates, while Liverpool’s end fell silent and their players wore stunned looks.
