Leeds United loanee Harry Gray has returned to Thorp Arch for treatment on a hamstring issue and will miss the start of Lee Clark’s reign at Rotherham United, though his season is not over.
According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, the 17-year-old had been ever present since joining the Millers in January, missed the midweek defeat to Peterborough United, then saw Matt Hamshaw sacked the next day and swiftly replaced by Clark.
Clark said it is common for young loanees to rehab with their parent clubs and that the medical facilities at Leeds, close by, will benefit Gray. He is hopeful the forward will be available for the next group of matches after Saturday.
Hamshaw had rated Gray highly and Rotherham all but guaranteed him minutes to secure the loan. Clark wants him back involved quickly and noted injuries have blighted the campaign, with about as many in the treatment room as available, while Saturday’s personnel is already set.
Rotherham visit league leaders Lincoln City, managed by former Leeds coach Michael Skubala, on Saturday, then Stevenage visit New York Stadium. Gray’s problem is thought to be relatively minor and should keep him out for two to three weeks.
