Harry Kane has accused sections of the media of trying to sow division in England’s camp ahead of their World Cup semi-final against Argentina. According to L'Équipe, he singled out ITV, the UK broadcaster of the tournament, over a question put to Jude Bellingham.
Tuchel and Bellingham’s post-match comments after the 2-1 extra-time quarter-final win over Norway appeared at odds. Bellingham had been responding to criticism from his coach, Thomas Tuchel, about the team’s level of play.
The Bayern Munich striker, 32, moved to cool talk of discord. He argued that so soon after a gruelling contest it is easy to try to create division, calling it a typically English mindset.
Kane added that Bellingham was asked only minutes after the final whistle and, without a clear grasp of what Tuchel had said, any answer risked clashing with his coach’s view.
England face Argentina in Atlanta on Wednesday at 21:00, a meeting set against a backdrop of geopolitical hostility between the countries. Kane said the mood inside the squad is strong and credited their cohesion for reaching this stage. England are aiming to reach only their second final after 1966.
