Harry Kane has topped the Bundesliga’s goalscoring charts since Matchday 1 but Bayern Munich’s captain for the day, in absence of Manuel Neuer and Joshua Kimmich, failed to find the net as Vincent Kompany’s side suffered a first league defeat since March 2025 – a run of 27 games.
Speaking after their shock defeat against neighbouring Augsburg, Kane took to the microphones to give his take on the defeat.
“The final touch wasn’t quite right, the final pass was missing, and the goalkeeper made a few good saves,” said Kane. “And at 1-0, the game is always open, no matter who you’re playing against – you can be punished for it.”
Second half goals from debutant Arthur Chaves and Han-Noah Massengo secured a 2-1 comeback win for Augsburg, who have suffered just two defeats in seven Bundesliga games since the appointment of Manuel Baum.
Commending Augsburg’s performance, Kane added: “In the second half, we lacked a bit of energy, we weren’t as fluid on the ball.
“Respect to the opposition: they put us under more pressure and made it difficult for us. It was a tough period with a lot of games, but ultimately, it’s on to the next one quickly, we’re now looking ahead to the Champions League.”
