Harry Winks has left Leicester City for Cagliari, marking his departure with a farewell message to supporters.
The player said in a post that there had been many challenges but praised the club’s staff and people he will stay in touch with. He thanked fans, called last season among the most enjoyable of his career, and expressed confidence Leicester will be back where it belongs soon.
His permanent move to the Serie A side was confirmed on Wednesday morning after he was pictured arriving for a medical earlier in the week. He had been expected to depart following the club’s relegation to League One.
Signed from Tottenham for around £10million in 2023, Winks made 109 appearances and helped deliver immediate promotion to the Premier League under Enzo Maresca in his first season.
His relationship with some City supporters had become strained after a number of incidents, though he offered thanks in his farewell.
Winks’ exit follows Victor Kristiansen’s switch to Panathinaikos on a season-long loan that includes an option to buy. Jannik Vestergaard is expected to leave too and is in talks over a mutual contract termination.
