Roc Nation Sports Director Frederico Pena believes that Lyon winger Malick Fofana (20) has the potential to become one of the best football players on the planet. Speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws, Pena has explained why the Belgium international has decided to remain with Paulo Fonseca’s Les Gones for a further season, despite massive interest from the Premier League. Everton and Fulham were indeed willing to match Lyon’s €45m asking price. “Fofana feels very valued in Lyon. He did not want to take this risk“, says Pena regarding his client’s future.

However, according to Pena, Fofana will more than likely leave Lyon for greener pastures in the coming months. The 20-year-old winger is “gradually preparing for a transfer.” The Roc Nation Sports Director adds that Fofana, who logged two Ligue 1 goals with Lyon this season, could “become a world star like Kylian Mbappé, Lamine Yamal, or Kevin De Bruyne.”

With Lyon gunning for an Europa League title charge and the 2026 World Cup looming in the coming months, this could be a turning point campaign for Malick Fofana and, presumably, his last with the Ligue 1 side. “This is the season where Fofana wants to show himself to the world, especially at the World Cup. If he succeeds, he could move from Lyon to a top 10 club. We have a lot of faith in him at Roc Nation. He belongs at clubs like Liverpool, Manchester City, Bayern Munich.“
