Joan Laporta was successfully able to retain the presidency of FC Barcelona in the last elections and is set to return as the top official of the Blaugrana club once the whole electoral process is over.

After getting the record number of votes in Sunday’s polling, the president-elect appeared in an interview with RAC1, and as Mundo Deportivo has noted, he talked about several first-team players in this interview.

The Spaniard praised Lamine Yamal in particular and highlighted some of the most notable aspects of his personality:

“He is an artist, a figure, a boy with a lot of personality. We had the renewal agreed, and he asked us to do it on a day when his grandmother could come.”

Laporta also addressed the future of Robert Lewandowski, stressing the club’s desire to keep him while noting that the decision ultimately rests with the €8 million-rated Polish striker.

“We would like him to stay, but it will depend on what he wants. He came at a difficult time and has helped us a lot, and we want him to continue.”

Meanwhile, the president-elect also talked about Marcus Rashford’s situation:

“Marcus is performing very well; he has made many assists and goals, and we hope that if he plays, he will help us pass the tie. We will try to speak with Manchester United and try an operation that isn’t serious for the club.”

The Spaniard also defended the decision to bring in Joao Cancelo in the last winter window:

“Cancelo is doing very well, and on top of that, now two of our full-backs are injured.”

Finally, Laporta reflected on Dro’s departure to PSG last winter:

“With Dro, we had discussed it, and it seemed we could trust the agent, which is why Flick gave him space in the first team. We had to take advantage of a relationship with Al Khelaifi to get them to make us an offer.”

Being elected at this time of the year would allow Joan Laporta to have a better handle on the sports planning of FC Barcelona in the coming summer transfer window. For now, it remains to be seen what decisions he will make in the coming months.
