Paris Saint-Germain man Désiré Doué (19) made an impression on his France debut during Les Bleus’ Nations League quarter-final second leg against Croatia (2-2, won 5-4 on pens). Not only did he mark his first appearance for France at the age of 19, but he also became the youngest player ever to take part in a penalty shootout for France, according to Stats du Foot. The youngster converted his penalty under pressure to help secure France’s spot in the final four of the Nations League on Sunday evening at the Stade de France. In the past, the likes of Thierry Henry and David Trezeget were already 20-years-old during the penalty shootout against Italy in the quarter finals of the 1998 World Cup.“I knew what he was capable of with his club and from what I saw him do all week on and off the pitch,” said France manager Didier Deschamps after the match to RMC Sport.“Especially as he doesn’t change. He really has it all, the footballing qualities, he’s 19, he’s mature and everything is well framed but it’s not surprising,” continued Deschamps at the Stade de France. “Many young French players arrive early and are in the professional environment. He earned his first cap at the age of 19 today, good for him. He also scored his penalty.”GFFN | George Boxall
