For club managers, all they can do over the international break is keep their fingers crossed that their players return without any injuries.

It looks as though Ruben Amorim hasn’t been so lucky this time around, unfortunately.

Ayden Heaven started for England U20 in their clash with Switzerland on Friday afternoon along with fellow highly-rated Manchester United teammate Shea Lacey.

The centre-half proceeded to sustain an injury inside the first minute of action at St. George’s Park and, while he was able to play on until half-time, he was hooked at the interval.

Head coach Ben Futcher said post-match: “He (Heaven) picked something up. I don’t think it is too serious, but we will have to see how it settles down.”

Yesterday’s fixture marked the young Lions’ only test of the October break, meaning Heaven will report back to Carrington in the coming days to undergo further assessments on his condition.

Heaven is enduring a quiet season at Old Trafford

So far this season, the 19-year-old has featured only twice; initially through a three-minute cameo in the closing stages of the draw with Fulham on August 24 before he was subsequently given the nod for United’s second-round Carabao Cup tie away to Grimsby Town three days later.

The fact that the Reds were knocked out of the competition that night means game time has since been incredibly hard to come by for Heaven, who has yet to feature since the defeat at Blundell Park.

Instead, the former Arsenal academy star, hailed as ‘fantastic’ by Wayne Rooney, has watched on from the substitutes bench for the last five Premier League outings, so you’d imagine a loan move may be on the cards come January to allow him to continue his development in a first-team setup.

Meanwhile, United return to action with a trip to Anfield on Sunday, October 19, in hopes of building on their win over Sunderland.
