Conor Gallagher is viewed as one of Manchester United’s more likely winter targets to bolster the midfield.
INEOS are expected to reinforce Ruben Amorim’s options in the middle of the park next month, provided they can do so in a relatively cut-price deal, following a summer in which over £200 million was shelled out.
Alas, the key decision-makers have reportedly shortlisted Gallagher amid his uncertain situation at Atletico Madrid.

The 25-year-old, hailed as ‘priceless’ by ex-Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino, has started only three times in the opening 15 La Liga matches of the campaign, while being utilised 12 times off the bench to make an impact in the closing stages of games.
As a result, Gallagher has been completely overlooked for the England setup, having not added to his caps since making his 22nd in June before 2025/2026 got underway.
His continued omission is thought to be spurring him on to explore a move elsewhere in January in order to ensure he plays a more prominent role in the second half of the term. Then, Gallagher can at least put himself in with a chance of receiving a call from Thomas Tuchel next summer.

United made a late loan approach for Gallagher in the final days of the summer window, but saw their attempts declined by Atleti, who were only willing to sanction a permanent transfer.
Journalist Alex Crook weighed in on whether he believes the Reds will revive their pursuit in a few weeks’ time, telling talkSPORT: “The one I think we should keep an eye on in terms of an incoming in January is Conor Gallagher. He’s keen to get back in the Premier League due to losing his England place.
“Sources in Spain say Atletico would only accept a permanent transfer. I think United are more inclined to do a loan deal, and see how it goes until the end of the season.”
