Following Benjamin Sesko’s arrival, Manchester United do not seem to have space for Rasmus Hojlund in the squad.

The Dane was a major disappointment last season, scoring only four times in the Premier League, and generally disappointing with his back-to-goal play.

He had expressed his desire to stay and fight for his place, but the club have informed him to find a new home this window.

Ruben Amorim made his thoughts on the matter very clear when he refused to sub him on against Fiorentina in the final pre-season game before the start of the new campaign.

Rasmus Hojlund not needed

AC Milan are reportedly in pole position, having agreed a loan fee while talks continue regarding the buy option. But so far, the United No.9 has not given them his green light as he is still hoping to turn his situation around.

This delay has seen four other Serie A teams join the race, while surprisingly, Newcastle have also entered the conversation.

Legendary former Milan boss Arrigo Sacchi has gone in hard on the Denmark international, claiming the player is nothing special and that he should be more than pleased with the Rossoneri’s interest in him.

“First of all: we’re not talking about Van Basten, nor one of the best strikers in Europe right now. He’s a decent player, nothing more. So, this pursuit of him seems exaggerated to me,” he told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

No green light yet for AC Milan

“However, since there’s a shortage of strikers, I understand the Rossoneri executives’ desire to secure one. But he must want to come to Italy, and not throw tantrums.”

The ex-Atalanta striker’s stance of trying to convince his current employers has not gone down well with the Italian.

“I don’t understand his decision. If AC Milan calls you, you should pack your bags and get on the first plane to Malpensa. AC Milan is a legendary name in the world of football. I would take all the players who are signed for a tour of the trophy room so they can fully understand where they ended up.

Arrigo Sacchi not impressed

“They’re the ones who should be thankful for being signed, not the other way around. Did I make myself clear? The club comes first, then the player. Sure, Manchester United, for goodness sake, is a legendary team, but on one side there’s a club, Milan, that offers you a permanent position, and on the other there’s another that will do everything to sell you. Which would you choose?”

The Danish ace’s will to prove himself is admirable, but the fact is Amorim needed more quality, which is why Sesko was brought in.

And the Slovenian is expected to start most games when fit, while Joshua Zirkzee will also play a few games up top. That leaves very little room for the 22-year-old.

And with United chasing Carlos Baleba, and a goalkeeper, player sales are extremely necessary. And given the interest he is generating, Rasmus Hojlund fits the bill.
