Manchester United target and RB Leipzig star Xavi Simons has informed his club that he is ready to move on in the upcoming transfer window, the reliable Fabrizio Romano has confirmed.
In addition to eyeing a striker this summer, United are also believed to be keen on securing the services of a top-class attacking midfielder who’d seamlessly slot into one of the two No. 10 positions in Ruben Amorim’s preferred 3-4-2-1 system.
Wolverhampton Wanderers man Matheus Cunha appears to be United’s top target but Simons’ name continues to pop up.
United have been linked to Simons at various stages of his career but needless to say, a move has never materialised. He only permanently signed for Leipzig in January, having spent the past 18 months in the Bundesliga with the Red Bull outfit on loan.
But with last weekend’s results confirming Leipzig’s absence from next season’s Champions League, Simons has wasted no time in making his intentions clear.
According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, Simons is seeking a new challenge and has already informed his side of his decision.
Romano wrote on X, “Xavi Simons’ decision has been made: he’s ready to leave RB Leipzig this summer.”
“Plan confirmed as reported in the recent months, he’s ready for new chapter with top Premier League clubs and Bayern all attentive to his situation.”
“RB Leipzig, aware of the player’s plan.”
A report covered by The Peoples Person last month relayed that the Red Devils had made contact with the 22-year-old’s camp regarding a potential switch to Old Trafford.
If this is to be believed, then this latest information from Romano will likely see United intensify their pursuit of the player and finally land him.
Simons has made 24 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring nine goals and providing an additional seven assists in that period.
He has notched 10 goals and eight assists in 32 matches across all competitions.
