It was a goal for the history books: when Lennart Karl set off on a mazy run 30 metres from the visitors' goal in the fifth minute of the Champions League match against Club Brugge (4-0), leaving several defenders looking like slalom poles in his wake before tucking the ball into the top right-hand corner from the edge of the box, he didn’t just score the opener for his side. The teenager also became the youngest German goalscorer in the history of Europe's premier club competition: at just 17 years and 242 days old, he was 121 days younger than Jamal Musiala when he got his first Champions League goal at Lazio in February 2021.

The fans of the German record champions were also suitably impressed and voted for Karl to be their FC Bayern goalscorer of the month for October 2025. The attacking midfielder received 45 per cent of the vote, edging Harry Kane (37.9 per cent), who scored Bayern's second goal in the DFB Cup match at 1. FC Köln (4-1), and Anton Heinz (9.4 per cent), who scored Bayern’s third goal in the FCB reserves' 4-3 Regionalliga defeat at FV Illertissen.

But it's not just because of this award that Karl will probably never forget the crazy days surrounding the match against Brugge. The 17-year-old also celebrated his starting XI debut in the Champions League. After scoring his first goal in Europe's most important club competition, he was also named Man of the Match at the end of the 90 minutes. But there was more to come: just three days later, he came off the bench in the Bundesliga match against Mönchengladbach and celebrated his first goal in Germany's top flight with another fantastic long-range strike. Just like that...

Karl was rewarded for his strong performances at FC Bayern by being handed his first call-up to the Germany U21 squad:
