The question of Dayot Upamecano’s future at FC Bayern has been dragging on for weeks. Now Uli Hoeneß has spoken out clearly. The honorary president’s statements are primarily directed at the central defender’s entourage.

Dayot Upamecano’s contract with FC Bayern expires in the summer of 2026, and an extension is still open. After Munich’s 2:2 draw in Hamburg, Hoeneß made it clear that he hopes the French international will stay. The honorary president told kicker: „I would be delighted if Dayot Upamecano decided to stay at FC Bayern.“

At the same time, Hoeneß made it clear why he believes the talks are proving so difficult. He pointed out that Upamecano and his family feel very comfortable in Munich, but did not see the responsibility for the faltering process with the player himself. „I know that he and his family feel very comfortable in Munich. However, I fear that his advisors will do everything they can to steer him away from Munich,“ Hoeneß explained. According to him, the centre-back is not personally involved in the talks. His advisors are completely responsible for the negotiations.

The behavior of the advisors in particular is met with massive incomprehension by the honorary president. FC Bayern has made economic moves in the negotiations and made concessions to the player’s side. Nevertheless, Hoeneß sees no rapprochement. „I am appalled by this behavior,“ he made unmistakably clear.

The sporting management of the record champions is now also pressing for clarity. After the game in Hamburg, sporting director Max Eberl made it clear that the situation could not remain open indefinitely. „How communication actually works internally is up to us. But it is also clear that a decision must be made at some point,“ said Eberl.

Sporting director Christoph Freund had already expressed similar sentiments. „There will be a decision in the near future, that will be the case. But I’m not going to talk about any deadlines now,“ explained Freund. Irrespective of this, the club is preparing internally for various developments.
