Jose Mourinho is under pressure at Fenerbahce despite only taking charge of the Turkish giants in the summer, and club legend Volkan Demirel has been unimpressed with the job he has done to date.

The Portuguese coach has been accused of creating a ‘unhappy and hopeless’ environment at the Turkish club.

In Mourinho’s pre-match press conference on Wednesday, he told reporters that Manchester United had nothing to be afraid of as he deems us to be favourites – along with Tottenham Hotspur – to win the Europa League this season.

Some will say Mourinho is up to his old mind games ahead of the fixture, but I wouldn’t look that deep into it. United shouldn’t fear Fenerbahce and he came across as respectful when talking about his former club.

What more can we ask for?

It’s a different story for Mourinho at Fenerbahce, with club legends speaking out against the side for lacking hope. It bodes well for United ahead of tomorrow’s night game.

After failing to secure Champions League football, they’ve had to settle for the Europa League and currently sit fourth in the Turkish Super Lig.

Volkan Demirel, formerly of Fenerbahce, hasn’t been impressed with Mourinho. He told Fanatik (cited by Football.London): “Right now, this Fenerbahce team is mixed with unhappiness and hopelessness. Why the unhappiness?

“Because of the environment they are in. Why the hopelessness? We were all expecting something. We were expecting it from Mourinho, we were expecting it from the transfers that were made.

“We were saying let’s see after the international break, but nothing has changed at the moment, but it will obviously continue like this. We waited to see if we could see a change, a variability, but it didn’t happen.

“We have not seen any changes in the game designs of the matches played at home and away. Or if you are leading 2-1, will Fenerbahce play a seven-man defence? A big question mark.”

United take on Fenerbahce on Thursday night in the Europa League in search of their first win in the competition this season.
