Braga beat Santa Clara 1-0 at the Estádio Municipal de Braga to climb from sixth to fifth in Liga Portugal.
Early on, Lukas Hornicek denied Brenner, then in the 42nd minute Ricardo Horta swept in from close range after a cushioned header by Gabri Martínez.
After the restart, Gabriel Batista tipped Rodrigo Zalazar's rising effort from distance over the bar. The hosts stayed compact and protected their advantage smartly.
Pau Víctor and Jean-Baptiste Gorby were introduced (59.), and Víctor Gómez added fresh legs down the right (70.). Sikou Niakaté later went off injured, with Vítor Carvalho coming on (83.).
Braga controlled the ball with 67.5% possession and registered three shots on target from six attempts. Santa Clara produced two efforts on target from five attempts.
Next, Braga visit Estoril in the league. Santa Clara host Sporting CP in the Taça de Portugal next.
