Cardiff City's Callum Robinson takes to X to share his opinion of drawing Chelsea in the EFL Cup quarter-finals
After a 1-2 away win against Championship Wrexham, Cardiff City have been drawn against Chelsea in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals - to Callum Robinson's delight.
With cup competitions, it can very much be luck of the draw in terms of how far you progress. However, it's not been the easiest of cup runs for Cardiff City to reach the quarter-finals in the competition, with the Bluebirds now the lowest ranked team left in the last eight.
Having to fend off League Two opposition in Swindon and Cheltenham, the Bluebirds pulled off a shock cup upset by knocking out the newly promoted to the Premier League, Burnley, away from home in the last 16 thanks to two first-half strikes by Joel Colwill and Callum Robinson.
Then another away fixture, this time with Wrexham, was a fierce encounter against their Welsh rivals. But after going ahead in the 71st minute thanks to William Fish, Cardiff were able to hold on and book their place in the quarters.
With Chelsea up next, and a chance to reach the semi-finals and have a two-leg cup tie potentially against the likes of Manchester City or Arsenal, Cardiff City supporters are in dreamland. However, there are very few more excited than Robinson.
After being drawn against Chelsea following Newcastle's victory against Tottenham last night, Cardiff City fans have had very little to shout about over the past year, but this EFL Cup run has struck hope in their fanbase with the Bluebirds starting to believe that they could do the unthinkable.
One man who is no stranger to facing Chelsea is Callum Robinson when playing in the Premier League with West Brom. The 30-year-old made a keen impression when coming up against Chelsea for the Baggies and has given Blues fans nightmares of the performances he gave against them back in the 2020/21 season.
The Baggies pulled off a shock 2-5 win at Stamford Bridge with Robinson being at the heart of all things positive on the day. The Irishman scored two on the day, and with his partner in crime Matheus Pereira, blew away Thomas Tuchel's side.
With that in mind, Robinson took to X upon the hearing of drawing Chelsea in the cup as he commented: "Chelsea it is", which was followed by pairs of eyes and laughing emojis.
It's clear that the 30-year-old is very much looking forward to meeting with Chelsea, and will hope as well as all Cardiff fans that he pulls off a similar performance that he did over four years ago.
It's no secret that when playing for West Brom, these with Robinson's prime years, however, in terms of the goal threat he poses, if anything, his numbers have improved in a Cardiff City shirt. With 12 league goals last campaign, and three already to his name, he will need no introduction to what he can bring to the table against Chelsea on 17th December.
Robinson's brief statement on social media was met by a flood of Chelsea fans in the comments section, all making their feelings known about Robinson and the fear factor he has for the future cup tie.
One Chelsea fan commented via Robinson's X post and said: "NOT AGAIN PLEASE MAN," which highlights that Blues fans still remember what he did on 3rd April 2021 like it was yesterday. Not often can teams say that they scored five at Stamford Bridge, but thanks to Robinson, that feat was achieved.
Another Chelsea fan said via X: "Thank you for ruining my morning." Therefore, it's safe to say that not all Chelsea fans are full of confidence coming into this one despite there being two divisions separating the teams.
Robinson will sure hope on the day that he can replicate his performance for West Brom to some degree, but that will be a big ask with the Irishman now in League One and not in the top-flight. However, it has to be said, stranger things have happened.
