Flamengo, the Brazilian club with the most players at the World Cup, saw several contribute in the first round of group matches. According to Globo.com, nine were called up and five featured.

Alex Sandro and Léo Pereira stayed on the bench in Brazil’s 1-1 draw with Morocco, while Carrascal was unused in Colombia’s 3-1 win over Uzbekistan. Arrascaeta is recovering from a calf problem and is aiming to be ready for the third group game against Spain.

Paquetá started against Morocco, began poorly with stray passes near his own defence, then improved before the break and even volleyed at goal. He was replaced 16 minutes into the second half. Danilo came on at half-time for Ibãnez at right-back, tightened up defensively and made a few forward raids, strengthening his case amid Ancelotti’s uncertainty after Wesley’s injury withdrawal.

Varela was among Uruguay’s best in the 1-1 draw with Saudi Arabia, completing 90 minutes with consistent work at both ends. De la Cruz entered after the interval, helped Uruguay grow into the game and chase the equaliser. He looked physically sharp and could see more minutes as the tournament progresses.

Plata started and played 90 minutes in Ecuador’s 1-0 defeat by Ivory Coast. He produced the team’s only shot on target and their clearest threats with his pace, and further cemented his place in the starting side.
