How Forest can turn a quiet start into a dream January window

Two weeks in, Nottingham Forest’s January window remains subdued. Sean Dyche expected a slower month at the City Ground, and so far the only move is Arnaud Kalimuendo’s loan to Eintracht Frankfurt.

His exit has sharpened the need for a striker, with Igor Jesus carrying the burden. According to Nottingham Post, Dyche wants the right deals rather than quick fixes, but he cannot be short up front for long.

Jesus is expected to feature in the next two European games and key league fixtures. Forest cannot change their Europa League squad until the league phase ends, and with Taiwo Awoniyi omitted and Chris Wood sidelined, rest looks unlikely.

Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Jorgen Strand Larsen is on the radar, though paying a reported £40 million remains unclear. Others have been linked. Beyond a forward, a full-back before 2 February would be smart, with Arsenal loanee Oleksandr Zinchenko below par.

Midfield could also be addressed if Douglas Luiz’s loan from Juventus is cut short, with an appearance-based obligation to buy in play and fitness a concern. Finances remain central after past Profitability and Sustainability breaches. Outgoings could include Willy Boly or Angus Gunn, and interest in Getafe’s David Soria has surfaced while John Victor is injured.
