According to a report from L’Équipe, RC Lens fought off Premier League competition to secure the signing of Samson Baidoo (21) from RB Salzburg on an €8m deal, including bonuses. The centre-back has arrived in the north of France, where he will sign a five-year contract.
The French outlet writes that the player had given his agreement in principle to Les Sang et Or on Monday. This worked to light a spark in the market. Salzburg subsequently received delegtaions from two Premier League sides who were willing to offer more than Lens. However, this did little to persuade the defender.
Baidoo had been convinced by Lens’ presentation, which had Pierre Sage explain where he envisioned the centre-back as the centre-piece in his three-man defence, but also by the testimony of Kevin Danso.
Baidoo sought out the advice of his international teammate and the former Lensois favourite from his first meeting with the Ligue 1 side. Danso told him about how Lens would ensure his development as a player, and also the culture that surrounds the club.
