Liverpool are hoping to kick-start a renaissance as they welcome relegation-battling Nottingham Forest to Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds were humiliated at the Etihad Stadium before the international break, falling to a thumping 3-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester City.

That was Liverpool’s fifth Premier League defeat of the season, and their seventh across their last 10 games in all competitions.

Having now lost more league games in their opening 11 fixtures than they did in the whole of last season, the reigning champions will hope Forest’s visit can offer some reprieve.

But the early signs suggest they could be in for another difficult outing, with Arne Slot confirming that Florian Wirtz and Conor Bradley will miss the game after picking up knocks on international duty.

How Liverpool could line up

Slot confirmed a timely fitness boost ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Forest, with first-choice goalkeeper Alisson ready to mark his long-awaited comeback.

The Brazilian has been out for nearly two months with a hamstring injury but is now on track to make his first appearance since late September.

His comeback should see him reclaim his place from Giorgi Mamardashvili, but that wouldn’t be the only change to the backline for Saturday’s outing.

With Bradley joining Jeremie Frimpong in the infirmary, Slot could turn to Curtis Jones to fill in at right back, alongside Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, and Andrew Robertson.

Jones covering at right back should allow Dominik Szoboszlai to continue operating in the number 10 role, where he has been influential in recent games.

With Wirtz also set to miss the Forest game due to a muscle injury, the Hungarian midfielder should retain his place ahead of Alexis Mac Allister and Ryan Gravenberch.

Up front, Mohamed Salah is poised to make his 300th Premier League appearance for Liverpool, while Cody Gakpo slots in on the other flank.

Alexander Isak played nearly an hour on international duty, but Hugo Ekitike could get the nod, with Slot looking to manage the Swedish striker’s fitness.
