Football League World looks at how many tickets Plymouth Argyle have sold for this Thursday's Devon Derby at Exeter City

On Thursday evening, the flames of the Devon Derby will ignite once more as Exeter City and Plymouth Argyle prepare to lock horns in the first edition of the rivalry in over two years.

Without variation, it is a fiercely contested affair in which love is never lost between rival players and supporters alike, and whenever the two sides are competing in the same division, you can guarantee it's the first game both sets of fans will look for on fixture release day.

Plymouth's two campaigns in the Championship before suffering relegation last May meant that the Devon Derby was put on hold, with Exeter competing in League One's lower reaches. This time around, however, the Grecians' marginally-better goal difference is all that separates the two sides between 19th and 20th position.

Three points, yet more crucially, pride and bragging rights, are firmly up for grabs at St James' Park ahead of what represents a tough fixture to call owing to both sides' inconsistent form and the natural unpredictability and chaos of derby day.

It will, of course, be an extremely well-attended fixture, too, and Football League World has taken a look at how many tickets Plymouth have sold for their short trip up the A38.

How many tickets Plymouth Argyle have sold for Exeter City away

It should come as no surprise that Tom Cleverley's outfit will be backed by a sold-out Green Army away end, with Plymouth selling out their allocation of 1,132.

Argyle, of course, could have sold that out twice more with a larger allocation, but those who are making the trip will remain in strong voice to try and spur their side on to victory in this season's first edition of the Devon Derby.

Plymouth released tickets for the fixture on Tuesday 30 September, and they were all sold out on the same day, which shows just how much this fixture means to those of an Argyle persuasion.

It's worth noting, mind you, that Exeter have also sold out the home allocation, with the showdown set to be fiery and well-supported by both fanbases.

Plymouth Argyle and Exeter City are not heading into Devon Derby in strong form

As the old adage goes, form heads out the window on Derby Day. That may well be true, although the importance of momentum and confidence heading into such fixtures cannot be understated either.

But it's not the case for Exeter or Plymouth, who both find themselves in less-than-ideal form ahead of Thursday evening. The Grecians have won just one of their last seven games, which impressively came away to sixth-placed Lincoln City at the start of this month.

Plymouth have begun to show signs of life, particularly from an attacking standpoint, following an abject start to the season.

Argyle have won five of their last eight matches across all competitions, scoring on 22 occasions, but a home draw with Wigan Athletic prior to Saturday's home defeat against AFC Wimbledon leaves the freshly-relegated outfit winless in their last two and, much like Exeter, in sure-fire need of victory against the old enemy.
