Anthony Patterson has been linked with a move away from Sunderland

Anthony Patterson's Sunderland wages have been revealed amid interest in his services from a number of Championship teams.

With the January transfer window approaching, teams up and down the Championship table will be looking to add to their ranks to maximise their potential ranking come May.

One player who could reportedly be on the move in the upcoming winter transfer period is Sunderland goalkeeper Patterson. The 25-year-old came through the Black Cats' academy system and was their first-choice shot-stopper during promotion campaigns from both the second and third-tier.

In an attempt to Premier League-proof their squad, Sunderland acquired goalkeeper Robin Roefs during the summer, which relegated Patterson to the role of No.2.

Journalist Alan Nixon has reported that Patterson could be on the move in January, with the goal of securing more game time. Championship sides such as QPR, Leicester City and Southampton have all been credited with an interest in the goalkeeper, who kept 14 second-tier clean sheets last term.

Nixon has now stated that a loan move wouldn't satisfy Sunderland, who would only be seeking a permanent exit for Patterson in January.

Whilst a significant transfer fee would surely be commanded by the Black Cats, the 25-year-old's wages would also have to be taken into account.

According to Capology, Patterson has a base weekly wage of £20,000, with an extra £5,000 available in bonuses.

This equates to £1,040,000 a year, with £260,000 available throughout the course of 12 months in the form of bonuses.

Southampton could hold clear advantage in Anthony Patterson race

Whilst all three Championship clubs will likely be able to satisfy Patterson's game-time demands, wages could be a different struggle entirely.

The shot-stopper isn't likely to want to take a massive pay cut if he moves on from the Stadium of Light, which means that the trio may have to stump up a hefty financial package to acquire his services.

As per Capology, QPR only currently have two players earning more than Patterson, whilst Leicester's current financial peril has been well-documented amid their legal battle with the Premier League.

These factors provide Southampton with a clear advantage in this race. They currently pay 13 players more than Patterson according to Capology, which suggests that they would have no problem satisfying his demands.

Coupled with the prospect of them providing the best chance of another promotion up to the Premier League, the Saints may currently be best placed to take the 25-year-old off Sunderland's hands in the January transfer window.
