How much Celtic could have to pay for blockbuster Kyogo return

Kyogo leaving Celtic in the middle of this season was seen as a major blow for the club. Have the Hoops missed the Japanese forward since his exit? Probably. They certainly could have done with him against the Rangers at Parkhead. Also, perhaps he could have proven to be a difference-maker in the game against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.

Kyogo is a fantastic talent. There is no doubt about that. But his decision to leave Celtic for Rennes is proving to be a bad one.

Kyogo had been a regular starter for Celtic for his entire three-and-a-half season run with the club. On the other hand, he had found chances hard to come by since joining Rennes.

He was not helped by the fact that Jorge Sampaoli was sacked as manager soon after Kyogo joined the French club. He does not seem to be a major part of Habib Beye's plans and has often found himself sitting on the bench, having to do with a late cameo appearance or being an unused substitute.

Celtic have been pretty active in recent times when it comes to bringing back former players. Incidentally, Jota left Rennes to return to Parkhead in the winter. On the other hand, Kieran Tierney has agreed a pre-contract with the club.

Could Kyogo be next to join that list? What kind of a transfer fee would it take for Celtic to make it happen? As reported by Football Insider, Keith Wyness told their Inside Track podcast:

"Obviously, it hasn’t worked out. It doesn’t seem that he’s happy. I think he was a lot happier from what I could tell at Celtic.“Which player wouldn’t be happy when you’re scoring goals and getting the adulation he was? I think he’s better off back at Celtic.“I think I’ve seen £3.5million. It’s a no-brainer to take him back to Celtic for me. I think that he would see himself playing well in Europe again next year."

If Kyogo is made available in the summer for that kind of a transfer fee, Celtic should definitely try to make a return happen. He is a proven player at Parkhead. They would not get a striker like him for that fee.
