Jay Rodriguez has been a brilliant servant for the Clarets over the years. The Burnley-born striker is a fan favourite, but as his place in the squad continues to be limited, is he on a wage fit for his place in the squad?

As Rodriguez continues his time at Turf Moor, now at 35, he's beginning to limit his impact on Scott Parker's squad.

Despite this, the striker showed his loyalty to his boyhood club, signing a one-year contract extension in May 2024, which could potentially see the experienced forward depart this summer.

With his place in the pecking order, the number nine has been pipped to the striker spot by Lyle Foster, and judging by Zian Flemming's involvement in Burnley's 1-0 win versus Leeds on the weekend, he may now even be third choice for Parker.

This now raises the question of whether Rodriguez's weekly wage aligns with his contribution to the Clarets.

Jay Rodriguez's weekly wage

Using Capology, Rodriguez's estimated weekly wage is thought to be £40,000. However, it must be stressed that this is an estimate.

This is incredibly significant within Parker's squad, as Rodriguez's wage puts him joint second in the Clarets' squad alongside Josh Cullen who supposedly earns the same, but it is Burnley captain Josh Brownhill who is estimated to be on the most with £45,000.

Given this extraordinary wage for the 35-year-old, Burnley would be wise to let their cult-hero leave this summer, as there looks to be a lack of game time for the striker this campaign.

His wage means he earns an annual salary of £2,080,000, exceeding the Clarets' average of £791.55 per player, meaning that Rodriguez earns more than 2.5 times that of the average player.

On average, a Burnley player earns £15,224 a week, as Rodriguez earns 37.5% more than that of the average. This outlines the striker's importance to the club after so many years, but he could provide more use off the pitch rather than on it.

The Burnley board probably can't afford to keep the forward on for another season, indicating all signs pointing to a departure from Turf Moor after 11 seasons across two spells.

Given his extraordinary wage figures at the club, Rodriguez's future at Burnley looks likely to come to a close.

His lack of game time and drop in the striking pecking order gives no real reason to keep hold of the striker aside from his pedigree with the Clarets.

The Englishman has appeared four times this season, still being used as a useful squad option, but for a wage that is reported to be £40,000, it's not exactly fit for a squad player.

Add to this, the striker's fitness struggles throughout his career, he doesn't exactly provide a reliable option when called upon, and although his career at Burnley has been brilliant, it might be time to part ways.

Rodriguez appears to be an anomaly in the Clarets' top earners, with Josh Brownhill, Josh Cullen and Joe Worrall likely to play a major part this season. The only one arguably on par with Rodriguez is Nathan Redmond, who is currently out injured.
