The Egyptian midfielder is set for a swift Championship return
Former Ipswich Town midfielder and captain Sam Morsy is set for a swift return to the Championship amid reports a deal has been agreed between the experienced figure and Bristol City.
The Robins are currently amongst a cluster of sides battling it out to achieve a play-off berth in the second tier, as they look to emulate their finish of sixth - or potentially even higher - from last season under former head coach Liam Manning, under the guidance of Gerhard Struber.
Struber has not made a huge array of tweaks to City's squad since his appointment in June, with the vast proportion of those who succumbed to an unwanted record-breaking semi-final aggregate defeat to Sheffield United seven months ago still plying their trade at Ashton Gate.
In fact, it is a testament to the Austrian's adaptability and man-management that the West Country outfit continue to be a feature within the play-off pack as the season heads towards the Christmas period, with it being well-documented as to how many injuries City have had to contend with over recent weeks and months.
Indeed, they have certainly showcased their credentials when it comes to earning a potential play-off place in five months' time, having run league leaders, Coventry City, close at the Coventry Building Society Arena on December 13th with a narrow 1-0 defeat, before being the first side to hand out a defeat to Middlesbrough's newly-appointed head coach, Kim Hellberg, as the Teesside outfit were seen off 2-0 in BS3 in the final outing before December 25th.
A handful of players have been linked with a move to Ashton Gate heading towards the upcoming January window, with Struber looking to add further depth and quality to his ranks.
Morsy can certainly provide that, as well as a wealth of experience, having led Ipswich to back-to-back promotions from League One to the Premier League between 2023 and 2024, before departing the Suffolk club in May.
As such, with talks between the midfielder and City progressing into an advanced stage, FLW have looked into how much the 34-year-old earned at Portman Road during a successful four-year stint.

Morsy is someone who needs very little of an introduction to those who cast their eyes on developments in the Championship, League One and League Two, having amassed 493 senior appearances across the EFL's three professional leagues since debuting for Port Vale in February 2010 against Lincoln City.
The nine-time Egypt international and Wolverhampton-born midfielder is best known for spells with the likes of Chesterfield, Wigan Athletic, Middlesbrough and the aforementioned four years which he spent at Portman Road between August 2021 and May 2025.
Initially reuniting with his former Latics boss, Paul Cook, on a three-year contract, Capology ESTIMATES that the combative midfielder's maiden salary with the Tractor Boys in League One equated to a sum of £11,998 per week.
Such figures are said to have remained in place for the following three seasons, despite the fact Ipswich ended a four-year exile from the Championship under Kieran McKenna in the Northern Irishman's first full season in charge, before returning to the Premier League for the first time in 22 years just 12 months later.
After the second of those promotions, Morsy signed a contract extension, initially until the summer of 2026, with such developments taking his ESTIMATED wage up to a figure equal to the sum of £29,249 per week.
During his final season in East Anglia, the central midfield player featured 33 times in the Premier League and scored against Southampton in September 2024 at St Mary's, before eventually agreeing to have his contract terminated by mutual consent in July ahead of a move to Kuwait SC.

It was reported on Monday, December 22nd, that talks between Morsy and the Robins were advancing, with it subsequently being revealed that a six-month deal has been agreed, with the club also holding a 12-month extension clause.
As well as enhancing Struber's midfield options amid injuries to Joe Williams and Max Bird, the agreement will bring a handful of months of uncertainty, from Morsy's perspective, to an end.
Indeed, his move to Kuwait SC was extremely short-lived, as he played three times, as well as receiving a red card in the last of those, before seeing his contract mutually terminated due to the club looking to recruit another foreign player whilst adhering to strict registration rules.
Not allowed to sign for a new club until January, it was then reported that the midfielder had been training with Wolves' Under-21s at the time of Rob Edwards' appointment, and now he is set to commence the latest chapter of a respectable career with the Robins, where his experience and combativeness will be highly valued.
