FLW look at Tyler Dibling's Southampton wage and what he could expect should he make the move to Germany.
Tyler Dibling has burst onto the stage this season for Southampton and is attracting interest from RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
In what has been a torrid season for the Saints, the 19-year-old has been a bright spark with his press-resistant ability on the ball and willingness to take on opponents catching the eye.
Unsurprisingly, many clubs have courted him, including Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United, but Sky Sports Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg has now claimed that RB Leipzig are ahead in the race for the teenager's signature.
The Red Bull-fronted club have repeatedly signed young players looking to turn them into stars and Dibling could very much be the answer for the German club.
For Southampton, it would be a bitter pill to swallow if he were to depart, but they should still command a substantial fee - even if Plettenburg's claims that the €70–80 million figures are off the mark prove accurate.
To get an idea of what his contract might look like in Germany, Football League World has taken a closer look at his current wages with the Saints and how they might translate at Leipzig, using comparable players as a benchmark.
According to Capology, Dibling is currently the lowest-paid player in Southampton’s first-team squad, excluding those out on loan, with the youngster estimated to be earning £5,000 per week.
For a 19-year-old, it’s a healthy figure - especially given it’s his first professional contract - and over the course of a season, it amounts to £260,000.
In terms of players on similar wages to the young attacker, we have the likes of Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Joachim Kayi Sanda, and James Bree, all slightly ahead of him. Of the trio, Bree is the top earner, taking home £10,000 a week.
At the other end of the scale, we see seasoned professionals such as Aaron Ramsdale on £120,000, with Jan Bednarek and Joe Aribo both earning £70,000 a week. While these figures may seem a world away for Dibling at present, based on his current trajectory, you wouldn’t bet against him landing a deal of that magnitude in the coming years.
His current deal runs until 2027, but if Southampton are to keep hold of him, you’d expect the club to offer improved terms in the near future.
If Dibling were to make the move to RB Leipzig, it’s fair to say he wouldn’t be among the higher earners in the squad at just 19 years of age. The current highest-paid players are David Raum and Benjamin Henrichs, on estimated wages £124,805 per week according to Capology.
Looking at players of a similar age, you’ve got El Chadaille Bitshiabu (19) and Antonio Nusa (20), both of whom have played bit-part roles for Leipzig so far this season. At present, the pair are earning £29,755 and £24,796 per week respectively. While Dibling may possess greater potential, this is likely the wage bracket he’d fall into.
If he were to earn somewhere in between - say, £27,000 per week - his annual income would total £1,404,000, an extraordinary sum for such a young player.
Naturally, contracts often include incentives, and beyond standard bonuses, there are usually optional clauses that can see wages increase based on performance or time served at the club. For a player like Dibling, that would seem ideal - and a move to Leipzig and the Bundesliga could very well elevate the versatile forward to the next level.
