Paris Saint-Germain advanced to the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal last week after eliminating Liverpool in a penalty shootout at Anfield. On Friday, the Parisians received their economic compensation for this result.
The Parisians moved on after beating Liverpool 4-1 in a penalty shootout (1-1 on aggregate). PSG’s lone goal in that second came in the 12th minute when Nuno Mendes sent a pass to Ousmane Dembele in the middle, who quickly laid it off to Bradley Barcola on the right.
Barcola attempted to return the ball to Dembele, but Ibrahima Konate’s sliding tackle unintentionally set up Dembele for an easy finish. With no goals in extra time, the match went to penalties.
PSG converted all four of their attempts against Alisson Becker, while Gianluigi Donnarumma stood strong in goal. Donnarumma allowed a penalty from Mohamed Salah but made key saves against Darwin Nunez and Curtis Jones.
The match ended when Desire Doue coolly converted the final penalty, sending PSG through to the next round.

At this stage of the Champions League, the remaining teams have secured the largest prize under UEFA’s revamped revenue distribution system.
Advancing to the round of 16 guarantees €12.5 million, a bonus that, according to Sportune, was paid out today, Friday, March 21.
PSG, however, will receive an additional €1 million, bringing their total to €13.5 million. This is not due to their upcoming quarterfinal against Aston Villa, but rather because they successfully navigated a qualifying round, which added an extra €1 million to their earnings.
