Murphy Cooper and Tayo Adaramola have stated their desires to remain at Wednesday past the end of this season

Sheffield Wednesday's League One fate has long been confirmed, and there are only a few more weeks remaining until they can put their full focus into preparing for the third tier next season.

The Owls are still in the process of being taken over by David Storch and his Arise consortium and, ideally, their period of administration should be behind them come May 1st, but there'll still be a lot of work to do in the aftermath.

Wednesday's squad was gutted last summer, and the majority of senior players currently at Hillsborough arrived on no-fee loan deals over the past year, meaning that there'll be a big reshuffle of the playing squad ahead of their third tier return.

Adding to that, the fee restriction is set to remain imposed on the club, and the possibility of having a £7k per week salary cap restriction is also feared, too. That, plus a 15-point deduction to begin the campaign due to the violation of the EFL's insolvency rules in the process of the Arise takeover, means it'll be an uphill struggle to even remain in the third tier next season.

Despite that, some of the current loanees at Hillsborough are willing to stay and fight as the club anticipates a difficult return to League One.

Despite the dire situation that Sheffield Wednesday have found themselves in over the past year, the support of the club has been unwavering, as seen, or more specifically, heard, at Coventry City on Saturday.

With the two sides seperated by 89 points at either end of the table going into the lunchtime kickoff, Wednesdayites still packed the away end at the CBS Arena and willed their side on to a precious clean sheet and a 0-0 draw, which actually denied the Sky Blues a mathematical return to the Premier League when the weekend was over.

That support hasn't gone unnoticed by the players, with QPR goalkeeper Murphy Cooper and Crystal Palace full-back Tayo Adaramola keen to continue their time at Hillsborough after their loan spells conclude come the end of the season.

"Of course," Adaramola said, when asked if he'd be open to a return. "It'd be a pleasure of mine to play for such a big club at any time in my career. I've got a lot of love for this club for giving me such an opportunity, so, of course, I'd repay them if the opportunity comes.

"I haven't seen anything like it. For us to be relegated in the manner that we were, for them [the fans] to keep taking it up a notch shows how much they love the club and how much they're willing to fight for it. I'm just so proud to play for such a club that has that 12th man every time we're on the pitch."

Meanwhile, speaking to the Sheffield Star, Cooper said that he'd be "100 per cent open to coming back" to Hillsborough when his loan spell concludes.

"My standpoint is that I absolutely love the club. I have only played seven games here and I have loved it. So I would 100 per cent be open to coming back — and that's something I could definitely want to happen," he said.

"But I think it's difficult in my position. There might be a decision out of my hands. Obviously, I love QPR. I've been there for 15 years now, so it would be difficult for me to leave.

"But if a decision was made, that I wasn't part of their future, then I'd be looking here straight away."

Murphy Cooper and Tayo Adaramola deals could be made, despite both being under contract

There's a lot of uncertainty over what Sheffield Wednesday can and can't do in the transfer window this upcoming summer due to the various restrictions and possibly salary caps which may be implemented.

Adaramola has one year left on his Crystal Palace contract, while Cooper extended his QPR stay this past summer, indicating that he, too, will be still under contract at their current clubs.

But, there are ways around making deals with these restrictions, as Wednesday exhibited in the past, when Lee Gregory and George Byers arrived on free transfers, despite being under contract, in 2021.

If the opportunity arises, the permanent arrivals of the defensive duo should be something that the new ownership group looks into securing.

Not long ago, Cooper was amongst the top of the third tier clean sheet ranks at Stevenage, while Adaramola has shown abilities of being a League One-level full-back earlier this season at Leyton Orient.

Plus, with them both having prior experience at Hillsborough, there would be two less new faces going into a campaign where Wednesday will need a lot of them, it seems.
