Newcastle United are looking to pick up where they left off as they take on French powerhouse Olympique Marseille in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Magpies visit the iconic Stade Velodrome brimming with confidence after a massive 2-1 victory against Manchester City at St. James’ Park over the weekend.

A brace from Harvey Barnes on either side of a Ruben Dias strike helped Newcastle end their deplorable 12-match winless streak against the Cityzens in the Premier League.

It wasn’t enough to get the Magpies back into the top half of the Premier League table, but it could mark a significant turning point in what has been a topsy-turvy start to the season.

Eddie Howe will hope his side can maintain their momentum in the Champions League, where Newcastle have managed to string together a fantastic run of results.

Since their 2-1 defeat against Barcelona on opening day, the Magpies have won three consecutive Champions League games.

They’ll fancy their chances of making it four in a row, and their quest has been aided by a timely injury boost for Anthony Gordon.

How Newcastle could line up

Howe will likely keep faith with the same team that secured his 100th win as Newcastle manager, although there could be a couple of minor tweaks.

Nick Pope should retain his place in goal.

Dan Burn missed Saturday’s win due to suspension, but is back in the mix and should slot into left back ahead of Lewis Hall, who was withdrawn against City with cramp.

Sven Botman was rested at the weekend and could reclaim his place ahead of Fabian Schar.

He’d likely anchor the backline alongside Malick Thiaw, while Valentino Livramento continues at right back in the absence of the injured Kieran Trippier.

Howe’s trusted midfield trio of Joelinton, Bruno Guimaraes, and Sandro Tonali should remain unchanged.

The manager confirmed that Gordon is fit to face Marseille.

However, the Englishman should start on the bench with Howe maintaining a front three of Harvey Barnes, Nick Woltemade, and Jacob Murphy.
