Looking to continue their resurgence after a slow start to the season, Newcastle United take on Tottenham Hotspur in the League Cup fourth round on Wednesday night.

Newcastle are determined to retain their crown and will fancy their chances against Tottenham given their recent record.

The Magpies have won five of their last six Premier League meetings with Spurs, including the three most recent fixtures.

It’s worth noting that each of those wins predate Thomas Frank’s arrival, and Spurs were 4-0 winners the last time both sides locked horns in the League Cup.

How Newcastle could line up

Newcastle head into tonight’s contest on the back of a 2-1 win against Fulham.

Despite looking to make it three wins in a row in all competitions, manager Eddie Howe is expected to make several changes for the game.

Aaron Ramsdale should get a chance to stake a claim for a first-team spot when he takes over goalkeeping duties from first-choice Nick Pope.

Newcastle are dealing with numerous defensive injury issues, which should open the door for Emil Krafth to come into the starting XI.

He’ll likely line up alongside Malick Thiaw, Fabian Schar and Dan Burn in defence.

Bruno Guimaraes should be handed a breather after his heroics against Fulham over the weekend.

The 27-year-old scored the last-minute winner and will be rewarded with time off as Joelinton, Joe Willock, and Lewis Miley line up in midfield.

Summer signing Anthony Elanga should also return to the team.

The £55 million winger has struggled to establish himself but should get a chance in the frontline, alongside William Osula and Harvey Barnes.
