Newcastle United travel east of the capital to take on West Ham United in a crunch Premier League showdown at the London Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Magpies are looking to extend their winning streak to four games across all competitions.
Eddie Howe’s side made light work of Tottenham Hotspur in their most recent outing as Newcastle picked up a routine 2-0 win at St. James’ Park.
After booking their spot in the EFL Cup quarter finals, the reigning League Cup champions return to Premier League duties, hoping to clinch a win that would return them to the top half of the table.
For all their exploits outside of the Premier League, the Magpies have had a slow start to the campaign, winning just three of their opening nine games so far.
Relegation-battling West Ham offers them a decent chance to build on their momentum, although they’d be silly to write off the Hammers, who are looking for their first win under Nuno Espirito Santo.
Howe is expected to ring the changes for this weekend’s crunch clash in East London, with several heavy-hitters set to return to the starting XI.
Aaron Ramsdale stepped in for Nick Pope in midweek and kept a clean sheet, but that wouldn’t be enough to retain his spot, with his countryman set to return to the XI.
During his pre-match press conference, Howe confirmed that Lewis Hall is “very close” to returning from his lengthy lay-off, although he didn’t provide a specific timeframe.
Dan Burn should continue his left-back duties in Hall’s absence. He’ll line up alongside Sven Botman, Malick Thiaw, and Kieran Trippier in the Magpies backline.
Sandro Tonali marked his return to the starting XI with an assist in the 2-0 win against Tottenham.
The 25-year-old will likely retain his place in the line-up against West Ham, marking his first Premier League start since mid-October.
He’ll likely be joined in midfield by Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton, while a familiar front three of Anthony Gordon, Nick Woltemade, and Jacob Murphy looks to wreak havoc on West Ham.
