Blues looking to continue winning run on Tyneside
Chelsea travel to Newcastle this afternoon looking to close the gap on Aston Villa in the top four of the Premier League.
The Blues themselves are fourth in the table, but they sit five points adrift of Unai Emery’s Villans, who have crafted themselves out as title darkhorses.
Enzo Maresca’s side, meanwhile, are looking to fend off those behind them, with Crystal Palace and Manchester United in pursuit.
The Blues come into this match with that winning feeling, having booked their place in the Carabao Cup semi-finals against Cardiff in midweek.
They also saw off Everton 2-0 in their most recent league outing at Stamford Bridge last weekend, as Cole Palmer and Malo Gusto got on the scoresheet.
Newcastle are 12th in the Premier League, although they will be wanting to build on their own last-minute heroics in the League Cup in midweek.
Lewis Miley struck late on to help the Magpies sneak past Fulham at St James’ Park to keep the Toon’s title defence alive.
Eddie Howe’s side were beaten 1-0 by fierce rivals Sunderland last time out, so they are looking to rediscover their winning spark here.
