A fitness update has been issued on Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford after he seemed to pick up an issue during Barcelona’s defeat to Sevilla on Sunday.
Rashford is enjoying a fine run of form and appears revitalised after his recent struggles at Old Trafford.
He scored Barcelona’s only goal as they suffered a 4-1 loss at the hands of Sevilla during the weekend.
Rashford delivered a superb finish just before the break to cut Sevilla’s lead in half, but it ultimately proved meaningless as Robert Lewandowski’s missed penalty in the second half cost the Blaugrana, with Sevilla later adding two more goals.
He has been involved in seven goals in 10 games for Barcelona across all competitions (three goals and four assists). Thus is more than any other player for the Catalan giants this season.
Rashford was one of the very few Barcelona players who put up a decent performance, so there was a lot of concern when he hit the floor in visible pain and discomfort after the final whistle.
The England international was escorted off the pitch by the club’s medical staff.
Carlos Monfort of Diario Sport has given an update on Rashford, indicating that the problem is not as serious as initially feared.
Monfort wrote on X, “Barça sources assure that Marcus Rashford’s issue is just a knock.”
“Although he ended the match lying on the field, it doesn’t seem to be anything serious.”
Hansi Flick will be breathing a sigh of relief that Rashford’s injury isn’t too serious. With Raphinha and Lamine Yamal already sidelined, losing Rashford would have spelt major trouble for the reigning La Liga champions.
What is unclear is whether Rashford will link up with his England teammates for the ongoing international break.
