Hugo Souza remains a doubt for Corinthians’ meeting with Vasco on Sunday in the 13th round after thigh pain in the Vitória draw.

According to Meu Timao, he felt discomfort taking a late goal kick. Club scans showed no lesion but a risk of aggravation, so his availability hinges on progress this week.

The issue kept him out of Tuesday’s Copa do Brasil opener, a 1-0 win over Barra-SC. In his absence Fernando Diniz chose 22-year-old Kauê, who would stay in if the No 1 is not fit.

He has dealt with recurrent issues since last season. In April 2025 he had a grade 2B right rectus femoris injury from a Paulista game with Guarani, worsened after playing the final against Palmeiras, and missed about three weeks.

In October 2025 he dislocated his left acromioclavicular joint against Atlético-MG. A traumatic left thigh injury the next month sidelined him for six games and cost him a Brazil call-up.

Corinthians pursued João Ricardo from Fortaleza in the last window, but he failed a medical after a right shoulder tendon problem and the deal was dropped.

The venue and crowd remain uncertain after an STJD punishment of a loss of home advantage and an R$80,000 fine for racist abuse of Palmeiras goalkeeper Carlos Miguel on 12 April. An appeal is due on Friday 24.

The Vasco tie is pivotal to their fightback. Corinthians are 17th on 12 points and could leave the relegation zone with a win, depending on other results.
