Hugo Souza saved a penalty in Corinthians’ 2-0 win over Red Bull Bragantino in the third round of the Campeonato Brasileiro, taking his tally for the club to 11 and drawing level with Gylmar as joint-third on the all-time list.

According to Globo.com, only Cássio, with 32, and Ronaldo, with 27, are ahead. Souza reached the mark in his 99th appearance on Thursday.

By contrast, Cássio has played 712 matches, Ronaldo Giovanelli 602, and Gylmar 397.

Souza said he was delighted to help and underlined how important the victory was. He added that the team are on an upward curve, playing well and putting their ideas into practice, and that he was pleased with the save.

Of his previous 10 penalty stops, six came in shootouts and four in normal time, against Estêvão and Raphael Veiga of Palmeiras, Pablo Dyego of Novorizontino, and Benavídez of Athletico-PR.

On penalties saved per game, he leads the club with 0.11, ahead of Dida on 0.06, Cássio and Ronaldo Giovanelli on 0.04, and Gylmar dos Santos Neves on 0.02.
