Brighton & Hove Albion manager Fabian Hürzeler admitted he was frustrated after his side drew 2-2 with Tottenham Hotspur at the Amex Stadium today.

The Seagulls entered the match looking to build momentum, and they made a strong start by scoring twice in the opening half-hour.

Yankuba Minteh put the home side ahead inside eight minutes, before Yasin Ayari added a second in the 31st minute to strengthen their control.

Richarlison pulled one back before the interval, keeping the visitors within touching distance.

Tottenham’s late pressure was eventually rewarded in the 82nd minute. Mohammed Kudus delivered a cross that was diverted into his own net by Jan Paul van Hecke.

Brighton’s bright start undone by late setback

Speaking after the match to Sky Sports, Hurzeler expressed disappointment, describing the result as ‘unlucky’ for his team.

“We started strongly in the first phase of the game, we created chances, we scored two goals and then we got a little bit passive,” he said.

“We conceded the first goal in an unlucky moment, out of an unlucky situation.

The Brighton boss explained that his players had to dig deep defensively in the second half, while still trying to create chances in transition.

He also stressed that his team kept fighting, despite conceding the equaliser late on.

“We had to suffer after we conceded the second goal,” he added. “I think we showed a great reaction, we had a lot of energy on the pitch, we were trying to go for the win, we created chances.

“It doesn’t feel great, but I saw a lot of positives – good small steps in the right direction and then we have to keep on pushing.”

Brighton have now collected five points from their opening five Premier League fixtures. They now turn their attention to the League Cup, where they face Barnsley in midweek.
