Franck Haise has admitted that the ongoing Jonathan Clauss (33) situation is having a negative impact at OGC Nice.
The Frenchman almost moved to Bayer Leverkusen over the summer, however, Nice ultimately priced him out of the move. With just one year remaining on his deal, Clauss was keen on a move to the Bundesliga giants. He was even removed from the first-team set-up momentarily, with the France international unsettled.
He was re-integrated, however, a couple of months on, he has seemingly still not come to terms with that failed move. Clauss asked to be brought off at half-time during Nice’s 2-1 win over Stade Rennais over the weekend. He then missed the midweek win over Lille OSC (2-0). However, speaking prior to the match against Les Dogues, Haise alluded to tension.
Clauss, ostentaciously, came off due to a knee injury, but tests didn’t reveal a problem, to the extent that there was no need for any further tests, Haise said. But reports had emerged stating that Clauss would be out for several weeks. “If he is out for several weeks, it is not because of knee injury,” said Haise on Tuesday.
On Thursday, Clauss did return to first-team training, but on Friday, ahead of Saturday’s game against Paris Saint-Germain, Haise confirmed that all is not well. “Jo’ trained normally [on Thursday]. We’ll see how it goes today. No-one at the club is taking this situation well […] The less we talk about this topic, the fewer stupid things we’ll say, but I didn’t create the problem,” said Haise.
It remains to be seen whether, amid this tense context, Clauss will be involved against PSG.
