After two painful defeats in a week, it’s a funny time to come out and defend Liam Rosenior. So credit to Wayne Bridge, who’s done just that in an interview with TeamTalk.

“I do like him a lot, and I like the way he speaks,” Bridge continued.

“I think as a young manager, especially one who hasn’t won anything elsewhere yet, he’s always going to come under a lot of criticism in the Premier League, particularly at a club like Chelsea.

“Chelsea is a club that are used to competing in the Champions League. Securing qualification for that will be really important for him.”

Chelsea stuck in same cycle if Rosenior fired

Unfortunately, right now those qualification chances are dwindling away to nothing. The Blues were beaten at home by Newcastle at the weekend and now face a real uphill battle to make the top 5 at all.

Whispers about Rosenior being under pressure were inevitable after that, no matter how unrealistic they are.

“These days, sometimes clubs just swap managers too easily. But then what progress will the next manager make if they’re still dealing with the same squad?” concluded Bridge.

Well said.

In other news…

Bridge also defended some of Rosenior’s in-game decisions by pointing out how poor the squad is in some areas.

Another thing making headlines this week was Chelsea’s pre-match huddle, which has been slammed by journalists.
