Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has admitted he likes Marc Cucurella and labelled him as “so annoying” for the opposition.

Chelsea ground out a vital 1-0 win against Manchester United on Friday night with Cucurella scoring the only goal in the second half.

The win means Chelsea remain on track to qualify for the Champions League, but must beat Nottingham Forest in order to return to the competition the club have won twice in their history.

Sherwood praises “annoying” Cucurella

It wasn’t a great performance, but one moment of quality in the second half settled it as Cucurella headed home from a brilliant Reece James cross.

That was Cucurella’s fifth goal of the year, making him Chelsea’s top scorer in 2025, and his redemption at Chelsea has been quite the story.

Maresca has previously explained why he feels Cucurella has done so well this season, and the fact he’s now not only a fan favourite, but one of the most important players on the team is testament to his character.

Cucurella is arguably the best left back in the league, and Sherwood believes the Spain international must be “so annoying” for the opposition.

“I like this boy,” he said at cited on X.com.

“He’s so annoying if you are the opposition but if you are a Chelsea fan, you want him in your team.”

Hato a left back target

With Renato Veiga likely to leave this summer the Blues need a back-up to Cucurella, as if anything happened to him they would have a big problem.

James and Malo Gusto have filled in at times this season, but the lack of a natural alternative ideally needs to be addressed this summer.

Chelsea have identified Ajax star Jorrel Hato as a target and the 19-year-old is a left back who can also play at centre back.

Hato would be a good fit for the system, and he ticks the boxes of Chelsea’s recruitment model, but Liverpool are also rumoured to be interested so the Blues may need to act fast.
