Benfica goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin has expressed his thoughts on reported interest from Manchester City ahead of the summer transfer window, in a new interview.
City are set for a major shuffling of ranks at the end of the season and could see at least one – if not both – of Ederson and Stefan Ortega Moreno leave.
Despite having the public backing of Pep Guardiola, Ederson has come under criticism for inconsistent displays between the sticks this term whilst Ortega Moreno hasn’t proved to be the reliable number two he once was.
On international duty with the German National Team this week, Ortega Moreno cast further doubts over his future at the Etihad Stadium in an interview, admitting he “can’t yet say what will happen in the summer” when quizzed on his club future.
Meanwhile, many expect Ederson to leave Manchester City in the summer amid long-standing interest from the Saudi Pro League – having admitted to refuting a chance to leave the Blues at the end of the 2023-24 season.
Juventus’ Michele Di Gregorio has been outlined as one of City’s top shotstopper targets for the upcoming transfer window when Hugo Viana takes over from current sporting director Txiki Begiristain and launches a new era in the blue half of Manchester.
City have already begun their rebuild – albeit under pressing circumstances – when they spent a combined £181.5 million to secure the arrivals of Abdukodir Khusanov, Omar Marmoush, Nico Gonzalez and Vitor Reis in January.
The four-in-a-row Premier League champions have also been linked with Benfica’s Anatoliy Trubin as the 23-year-old Ukraine international enjoys a stellar season in goal for the Portuguese side.
“I don’t know, I saw it on the Internet just like you,” Trubin said on reported interest in him from Manchester City, as quoted by Sport.ua and relayed by Sport Witness.
“Right now, I’m completely focused on the National Team, then on Benfica. Because there’s an important stretch of championships and cups ahead, and everything else needs to be postponed for later.”
After Ortega Moreno failed to impress when deputising for Ederson against Brighton and Hove Albion last week, it remains to be seen who gets the nod from Pep Guardiola when Manchester City face Bournemouth in the FA Cup quarter-final after the international break.
