Victor Boniface is here! Werder’s newest loanee spoke in an exclusive interview with WERDER.DE after his deadline day transfer. He spoke about his reasons for joining Werder, his time with Senne Lynen at Union Saint-Gilloise and the last time he played at the Weserstadion.
WERDER.DE: Moin Victor! We’d first of all like to warmly welcome you here. That must have been a pretty thrilling transfer deadline day for you. How has it made you feel?
Victor Boniface: Hello! Everything just happened so quickly which I was pleased about. I had some great conversations with the people at Werder which gave me a good feeling about the move. I’m so happy to be here.
WERDER.DE: Clemens Fritz already mentioned in a press conference about your desire to join Werder. Where does this desire come from?
Victor Boniface: The last few weeks haven’t been easy for me. The people here at Werder told me their exact plans and it didn’t take them long to convince me. I was on board immediately and I am very pleased that it has come to be.
WERDER.DE: Senne Lynen is a player that you’ve already played alongside previously, with both of you performing well in Belgium with Union Saint-Gilloise. Did you manage to speak to him before your move?
Victor Boniface: Senne texted me four days ago just asking if I was alright and if there was a possibility of this move happening. I texted him back and said it would be difficult. I texted him again two days ago to tell him that things had changed slightly. He’s a good friend of mine and I had a great time with him in Saint-Gilloise. We’ve spoken a lot about how much he enjoys both the city and the club, which I found very helpful.

WEDRER.DE: What do you personally hope to get out of this loan at Werder?
Victor Boniface: I never set myself any personal goals ahead of the season, such as scoring a certain amount of goals and so on. I want to be successful with the team and I want to win games. I’d love to do that with Werder this season.
WERDER.DE: You scored for Leverkusen here in the Weserstadion last season in a 2-2 draw. What can you remember about that day?
Victor Boniface: I remember it being loud (laughs). The atmosphere was actually really good. I did score in that game, but I hope that my next goal will be in a Werder kit and that I can celebrate it alongside all of the fans.
WERDER.DE: The announcement of your transfer delighted a lot of Werder fans. How do you see all this hype surrounding you?
Victor Boniface: First of all I’m delighted with the support I’m getting from the fans and the whole club, as well as the excitement that the news of my transfer brought about. That’s the biggest thing for a footballer. I want to use this excitement to give them something back on the pitch.
