Paul Pogba’s story in Italian football is over for now. The Frenchman will finally play in Ligue 1, having signed for Monaco this week. The contract will keep him at the club till 2027. It is interesting to note that Pogba hasn’t played club football at all since the September of 2023. Even on the day of signing for his new club, Pogba spoke about Juventus, with whom he has a special bond. “I have always loved and will always love Juve. This club has helped me become the person I am today. There is no war to fight, against anyone. There are things I like and others I don’t like. But that’s how it goes. Some have continued to be interested in me, to come and visit me and help me. The president (Andrea Agnelli) did it, Giorgio (Chiellini) did it too. Some teammates too. Others, no.” (via TMW)Pogba first signed for the Bianconeri in 2012, after promising spell at Manchester United’s academy. At Turin, he became one of the best young players in the world and one of the most complete profiles in the game. A return to United in 2016 fetched Juventus a world record fee at the time. Subsequent to that, his career trajectory hasn’t been the same, despite winning the World Cup in 2018. After a mixed spell at United, he returned to Juventus in 2022 but has barely been on the pitch since, due to injuries and a doping suspension. Kaulik Mitra | GIFN
